Provider points

See specialist locations inside a market area, and mark the ones you partner with or own.

What a provider point represents

Provider points show specialist locations from the CommunityDX directory inside an active map boundary. They help you see where competing, partner, and owned locations sit in relation to a potential market area. The points are tied to your account's profession; the map currently supports dentist and veterinary location data.

A point represents a provider or practice location, not necessarily one individual professional. Several provider records may be associated with the same address. When that information is available, the popup shows Providers Seen at Address with the number of associated records. Within a marker's analysis, competition totals still treat the map point as one specialist location.

Provider data can include a location name and address; a profession and specialty or facility classification; the distance from your active pin; the number of provider records seen at the address; a confidence indicator for the source-record match; and verification or data-age information, when available.

The Confidence Score describes confidence in the directory's record match. It is not a rating of the provider or the quality of care.

Load provider points

Add a radius marker by searching for an address, selecting a saved or recent location, or holding Ctrl while clicking the map. Provider points then load automatically for the marker's selected boundary:

  • 3 mi and 5 mi modes load locations by straight-line distance from the pin.
  • Drive Time loads locations inside the outer drive-time boundary.

Read provider points

When provider-point clustering is off, individual points use these colors:

  • Navy — an ordinary specialist location that can count as a competitor;
  • Blue — a location you designated as a Partner; and
  • Green — a location you designated as Owned.

Hover over an individual point for a quick preview. Select the point to pin the full details popup open.

Cluster nearby points

Open Settings → Map Display and turn on Cluster Provider Points to group nearby locations at wider zoom levels.

A numbered circle represents several nearby points. Its color reflects the size of the cluster, not whether its locations are competitors, partners, or owned. Cluster circles do not open a provider popup when selected; zoom in to separate the cluster into smaller groups and individual points. Your clustering choice is saved to your profile.

Filter provider points

Open Filters in the Toolbar to show or hide specialties, facility types, patient-focus classifications, or other values available for your profession. Filter choices affect both the provider points visible on the map and the provider counts and competition results in the Analysis Panel.

A location remains visible when it matches any enabled value across the available filter sections. If hiding one value does not remove a point, that location may also match another value that is still enabled.

Filter choices are saved to your profile. See the Toolbar guide for the complete filter workflow.

Designate a Partner location

Use Partner for a location that belongs to an organization or practice you work with.

  1. Select an individual provider point.
  2. Under Designate this Location, select Partner.
  3. Wait for the button to become active and the point to turn blue.
Partner and Owned designation buttons in the provider popup.

The location is saved under My Places → Partner Locations in the Toolbar. It is also excluded from competing-specialist totals, breakdowns, nearest-competitor results, and other competition analysis.

To remove the designation, select the active Partner button again or select the X beside the location in My Places.

Designate an Owned location

Use Owned to identify one of your own locations.

  1. Select an individual provider point.
  2. Under Designate this Location, select Owned.
  3. Wait for the button to become active and the point to turn green.

The location is saved under My Places → User Owned Locations and excluded from competition analysis. Partner and Owned are mutually exclusive, so remove the current designation before applying the other one.

An Owned designation is a private classification in your CommunityDX profile. CommunityDX does not currently provide a location-claim or ownership-verification workflow. Selecting Owned is not a public ownership claim, a verification request, or an edit to the underlying provider record.

Partner and Owned designations require a signed-in, loaded user profile and persist across sessions.

Report incorrect information on a provider point

Use Report a Discrepancy when a point exists but its information is incorrect.

  1. Select the provider point to open its full popup.
  2. Select Report a Discrepancy.
  3. Choose one or more reasons: Wrong name, Wrong address, Wrong specialties, No longer in operation, or Other.
  4. Add the correction details you know.
  5. Select Submit.
The discrepancy form adapts its fields to the reasons you select.

The available detail fields depend on the selected reasons. A corrected name and address are optional, and address suggestions can help identify corrected coordinates. Wrong specialties shows the specialty list available for your profession alongside the specialties currently listed for the location, and appears only when a supported specialty list is available. The year closed is optional for No longer in operation, Other requires a description, and free-text fields are limited to 500 characters.

After a successful submission, Report a Discrepancy changes to Under review for that location. The report is attributed to your signed-in account and sent to the support team with the selected location details.

You can have only one active discrepancy report for the same provider point. The Under review state is saved to your profile and remains across sessions. When the support team resolves the report and clears it from your profile, the report action becomes available again after your profile refreshes. Submitting a discrepancy does not immediately edit the point.

Report a location that is missing entirely

Report a Discrepancy is only available for a point already on the map. If the specialist location is missing:

  1. Open the Analysis Panel.
  2. Select the information icon beside a specialist count.
  3. Under Not seeing a specialist location?, select Report it here.

How provider points affect analysis

The Analysis Panel counts provider points inside the selected boundary:

  • Radius modes use each point's distance from the pin.
  • Drive Time uses the smallest drive-time contour containing the point.
  • Active provider filters determine which locations are included.
  • Locations designated as Partner or Owned are removed from competitor calculations.

Because a point represents a location, Providers Seen at Address does not multiply that point's competition count.

Troubleshooting

No provider points appear

  • Confirm that a radius marker is active.
  • Wait for the marker's boundary and specialist requests to finish.
  • Review Filters and re-enable values that may be hidden.
  • Try moving the marker or changing its boundary to trigger a fresh request.
  • Confirm that your profile profession is supported and loaded.

The current map does not show a dedicated provider loading or request-error message. Existing points can remain visible while a changed marker refreshes. If points still do not update or appear, refresh the page and try again.

I cannot select an individual point

If clustering is enabled, zoom in until the numbered cluster separates into individual points.

Partner or Owned is unavailable

A location cannot be Partner and Owned at the same time. Remove the active designation first. These actions also require a signed-in, loaded profile.

My discrepancy report did not change to Under review

The submission may not have completed. Check your connection, reopen Report a Discrepancy, and try again. If the location already shows Under review, another report for that point cannot be submitted until the current review is resolved.

A point or count changed after filtering

This is expected. Provider filters drive both map visibility and Analysis Panel competition counts. Partner and Owned designations also remove those locations from competitor-only totals.

Current limits

  • Provider points currently support dentist and veterinary profiles.
  • Points appear only after an active radius or Drive Time marker loads them.
  • The popup exposes location-level summary data, not every underlying provider record.
  • Partner and Owned are personal analysis designations, not public record changes.
  • Discrepancy reports provide an Under review state but no detailed status timeline in the map.
