Account Guide
Notification preferences
Choose notification topics and delivery channels, then manage their Alerts behavior.
Open Notification Preferences
Sign in to CommunityDX, open Account, and select Notifications.
The page separates your preferences into What we'll notify you about, which controls topics, and How you'd like to hear about them, which controls delivery channels.
Choose notification topics
- Product updates — product news and feature updates;
- Support replies — responses from the CommunityDX support team;
- Billing alerts — payment, invoice, and subscription updates;
- Marketing emails — promotional CommunityDX messages; and
- Security alerts (always on) — important account and authentication notices.
Security alerts (always on) cannot be turned off. Changing another checkbox does not save immediately: the changed row shows Unsaved, and the save bar shows the number of unsaved changes.
Choose delivery channels
- Email — allow notifications to be sent to your account email address.
- SMS — allow notifications to be sent to the phone number associated with your account.
- In-app (always on) — show supported notifications in the notification bell while you use CommunityDX.
The in-app channel cannot be turned off. Enabling a channel does not guarantee that every topic is currently delivered through that channel; delivery support depends on the notification type.
Save your preferences
- Turn the topics and channels on or off.
- Review the rows marked Unsaved.
- Select Save changes.
- Wait for the status to show Saved.
The Save changes button is available only when at least one preference has changed. Your saved preferences are loaded again the next time you open an Account page.
If the page shows Save failed, your changes were not confirmed. Check your connection and select Save changes again.
How topic preferences affect Alerts
The notification bell is your in-app Alerts inbox. Its badge counts unread alerts.
When you turn a topic off and successfully save:
- existing unread alerts associated with that topic are marked read;
- the bell badge updates to exclude those unread alerts; and
- the underlying activity remains available in the related CommunityDX feature.
For example, turning Support replies off marks unread CDX Support Reply alerts as read, but your ticket conversations remain available under Account → Support. See the Support tickets guide.
Manage the Alerts inbox
- Select an alert to open its related destination.
- Select an alert's X to remove it.
- Select Clear all to remove every alert after confirming.
Marking an alert read keeps it in the inbox. Dismissing it or using Clear all removes it.
Required notifications
Two settings are always enabled:
- Security alerts is a required topic.
- In-app is a required channel.
These settings cannot be changed from Notification Preferences. Email and SMS remain optional channels.
Troubleshooting
Save changes is unavailable
The button remains disabled until a topic or optional channel differs from its saved value. Change an available checkbox and look for the Unsaved label.
My changes disappeared
Confirm that the page showed Saved before leaving. If it showed Save failed, return to the page and save again.
An alert disappeared when I turned off a topic
This is expected. Saving a topic as off marks its existing unread Alerts as read so the bell reflects your preference.
I turned off a topic but received another in-app alert
Refresh the page to confirm that the preference was saved. Server-side prevention of newly created alerts is not yet fully enforced for every topic.
I enabled Email or SMS but did not receive a message
Confirm that your account has the correct contact information. Delivery automation is not yet available for every topic and channel.
Current limits
- Security alerts and In-app are always enabled.
- Preference changes require Save changes; they do not save automatically.
- Turning off a topic marks existing unread Alerts as read, but server-side suppression of future alerts is not yet fully enforced.
- Email and SMS delivery are not yet available for every topic.
- The active documented in-app alert producer currently covers support replies; other alert categories may appear as their producers are connected.
